Fuel poverty is killing thousands of people as UK energy prices continue to spiral and too many families are unaware of support, say experts. It is estimated more than nine million people will be living in fuel poverty by 2016 – an increase of nearly 300 per cent from 2005 – meaning one in three households will be spending more than 10% of their overall income on heating their house to an acceptable level. On average, at least 7,800 people die every year from living in cold homes and more than 1.6 million children are growing up in a home which parents can’t afford to heat.
Home energy experts are now calling for more information to be made available to vulnerable people unaware there is government support available. Mark Bryant, managing director of One Tempo Insulation, a nationwide insulation company, is working with energy suppliers, local councils and heating equipment manufacturers to help link the support available with families in need: “Not enough households are aware of the Affordable Warmth scheme set up by the Government which could save lives. “The Government has developed a new Energy Company Obligation (ECO) which can potentially fully fund the upfront costs of basic heating and insulation measures for low income and vulnerable households struggling to heat their homes. “This means many families are entitled to energy saving measures such as loft and cavity wall insulation and energy efficient boiler installation free of charge. Unfortunately, one in four families are currently having to decide between heating and eating during the cold weather and with energy prices set to continue rising people must be made aware of funding currently available.
As an approved cavity and wall insulation insatller, Tempo Insulation offers a free home energy survey to identify eligibility for free energy saving installations. Mark Bryant added: “homes which are in receipt of benefits such as pension credit and child tax credit are likely to be eligible. “If people aren’t made aware of the support available to them, thousands of people could continue dying unnecessarily.” To find out if you could benefit from from free insulation call Tempo Insulation free on 0800 152 211 for a free energy survey.Back to blog
I very rarely leave reviews, but on this occasion I felt I just had to.
Quite simply, Tempo ( Doncaster) were brilliant – did exactly as stated on their vans – free boilers. Turned up on time, did a fantastic job fitting my new oil boiler, no hassle, and free. Absolutely brilliant… I’ll spread the word Tempo.
