The Renewable Heat Incentive scheme’s open to people who can meet the joining requirements. It’s for households both off and on the gas grid.
People off mains gas, for example home owners using oil, electric or LPG as their primary heat source have the most potential to save on fuel bills and reduce carbon emissions.
Domestic heat Incentive
A requirement of the Renewable Heat Incentive is that the renewable heating system such as a biomass boiler heats only a single property which is capable of getting a domestic Energy Performance Certificate (EPC). The energy performance certificate is the proof required to evidence that your property is assessed as a domestic ‘dwelling’. Without one a valid energy performance certificate, you won’t be able to apply and can’t join the scheme.
An EPC provides information about a property’s energy use, plus recommendations on how to reduce energy consumption and save money. Recommendations that an energy performance certificate could advise include the installation of cavity insulation, loft insulation, LED lights, plus many more. AN EPC is required every time you buy, sell or rent a property. It’s included as part of a Green Deal Assessment, which is a requirement for most to join the Domestic RHI.Back to blog
