Celebrate Earth Day: What You Can Do to Save Energy at Home
Tempo Insulation Services is declaring that the 44th Annual Earth Day is a call to action for Welsh and English communities and residents to rekindle their passion for a cleaner environment.
Tempo are offering some advice about steps you can take to save energy in your home:
Get an energy assessment – A home energy assessment, with one of our energy surveyors, will evaluate the performance of your home and and will determine what energy efficiency improvements are needed.
Draft proof your home – An enormous amount of energy is wasted when inside air (either heated or cooled) escapes to the outside through leaks via poorly fitted, windows and doors.
Heat your home efficiently – Replace old, inefficient heating systems with new high-efficiency boilers. Seal ductwork and bleed radiators.
Install a programmable thermostat – Programming your thermostat allows you to be comfortable when you are home and save energy when you are away or asleep.
Control hot water use – Use low-flow shower heads. A standard shower head can use up to 5.5 gallons of water a minute; low-flow shower heads deliver a high pressure spray at less than 2 gallons per minute. Turn down your water heater to by a couple of degrees; and wash clothes in cool water.
Replace light bulbs – Replace old incandescent light bulbs with more efficient CFLs energy saving or LEDs (light emitting diodes). LED’s, for instance, use about 20% of the energy and last up to 50 times longer than a traditional incandescent bulb with the same light output.
Buy ENERGY STAR® products – Look for the ENERGY STAR label when purchasing new household products. ENERGY STAR signifies strict energy efficiency guidelines.
Invest in renewable energy – After employing basic energy efficiency such as loft and cavity wall insulation and conservation measures in your home, consider installing a solar or solar thermal energy system or another form of clean energy to help power your home, or purchase green power from your utility.
Use public transportation or car share or enjoy a cycle to work.
I very rarely leave reviews, but on this occasion I felt I just had to.
Quite simply, Tempo ( Doncaster) were brilliant – did exactly as stated on their vans – free boilers. Turned up on time, did a fantastic job fitting my new oil boiler, no hassle, and free. Absolutely brilliant… I’ll spread the word Tempo.
We are over the moon with the boiler install and the work that has been completed at the property. I was very happy with how professional and tidy they were and can’t thank them enough for everything they have done.
