The good news is that the Government has extended (Dec 2013 announcement) the element of ECO known as HHCRO (Home Heating Cost Reduction Obligation) that guarantees a grant for boilers for the vulnerable members of society right through until 2017.
Unfortunately the grant in most cases will not cover the full install cost of the boiler; it will however make a significant contribution in the amount you need to pay towards your new A rated energy efficient replacement boiler.
When the free boiler scheme launched in early 2013, the funding levels were at a higher rate which more often than not covered the entire cost of the boiler replacement enabling eligible homes throughout the UK to have the boiler installed for free.
The current market has changed and approved heating installers are receiving a reduced amount per installation, which means that in most cases the installer does not receive the required amount of funding to help cover the entire cost of the boiler and therefore a request to customers is being made to contribute towards the cost of boiler installation.
Absolutely, the boiler grants scheme is helping thousands of eligible homes upgrade old inefficient boilers which will be wasting energy and money. In addition, you will also benefit from reducing your carbon footprint and having the peace of mind this winter and through ought the year that you will be saving money on your energy bills and have a reliable heating system delivering hot water and heat to your home when you need it.
If your boiler is over 8 years old, then it’s probably worth investing in a new one. In most cases the savings you make from a more efficient boiler over the years will pay for the outlay. Combine this with the boiler grant scheme funding and the saving you make is very worthwhile.
Building regulations stipulate that if you are replacing an old boiler the new appliance must be A-rated for energy efficiency. This means it must be at least 88% efficient (most new boilers score over 90%), the boilers being fitted on the scheme will be A rated, for example Tempo are currently installing Vaiilant ecoTEC pro combi boilers.
The grant funding an installer such as Tempo receives is calculated by completing an energy savings survey also known as an energy performance certificate. Tempo provides the energy survey free of charge, so there is no upfront payment required. The surveyor will come out to your home at a time convenient and complete the assessment. During the visit he will double check you meet the eligibility criteria. The higher the energy savings the more grant funding you will receive towards your replacement boiler. Any shortfall in the cost of replacing the boiler is then calculated, enabling you to make an informed decision if you would like to proceed with upgrading your boiler.
Tempo have installed 1000’s of replacement boilers on the grant scheme and are here to help you. I very rarely leave reviews, but on this occasion I felt I just had to.
Quite simply, Tempo ( Doncaster) were brilliant – did exactly as stated on their vans – free boilers. Turned up on time, did a fantastic job fitting my new oil boiler, no hassle, and free. Absolutely brilliant… I’ll spread the word Tempo.
