The final edition to the trilogy ’12 ways to reduce your energy bills’ will guide you through the simple and easy ways to attempt to reduce your energy bills yourself. After all, Tempo does have your best interests at heart and when it comes to reducing energy bills, there are certain steps that you could help yourself with that will not cost you a penny!
Sometimes some things just seem too simple to be true, and when it comes to your thermostat, it has been stated that just reducing it by 1 degree could save you up to £75 a year (1). Alternatively, if you feel that the house would be too cold with the thermostat cooler, then have a think about turning off your radiators in rooms you don’t use. Even though the thermostat will still be using energy, not as much energy will be released with less radiators on, meaning you could save yourself a few pounds.
This might seem a bit of a random one, but if your one that enjoys a good cuppa then it might be a good idea to fill just the right amount of water for your cup before you boil the kettle. If you think about it, if you fill your kettle up with unnecessary water, the kettle takes longer to boil, meaning that you use more electricity in doing so. If you do this a few times a day then you could be wasting more electricity than you think and more money is spent in the process!
A typical household can save between 40- 80 pounds purely by making sure everything electrical in the house is turned off properly! Even if an appliance is stuck on standby, it is still costing you money and wasting energy… so always remember, turn everything off that you aren’t using… unless it’s a sky box.. in that case don’t let it delete your recorded programmes! (1)
So if you have a dishwasher, it’s always beneficial to remember that in fact around 80% of the energy used in one dishwasher is used to heat the water, which means the money is coming straight out of your pocket every time you turn it on (2). Needless to say, if you make sure your dishwasher is full every time you let it run you could potentially save yourself up to £75 a year! This one simple step could probably pay for your washing up tablets annually.
So there you have it, 12 ways to reduce your energy bills. Now you have no excuse other than to start saving yourself some cash!
Good luck, and remember, Tempo is always here to help, so please do not hesitate to give us a call on 0800 152 2011 to begin your journey to a cheaper, more energy efficient future.
